Moderation - necessary in all things, even goodness

Moderation is necessary in all things. Yes, even where goodness is concerned, for if you lack moderation in that, too, you will inevitably suffer unpleasant consequences. Lacking moderation is neither bad nor criminal, but it is a fault, and all faults carry a penalty. I'll give you an example. I received a visit from a young woman, who told me, 'Oh, Master, I'm so unhappy! I cry night and day.' 'Why? What has happened?' 'I loved my husband so much, I anticipated his every wish, I surrounded him with such affection and warmth, and now he's left me and gone off with one of my friends.' 'Ah! And what is she like, this friend of yours?' 'Oh, she's selfish and cold.' 'Well, that's just it; you were too warm, and he's gone to cool down.' Obviously, people will say, 'So, why be kind?' Unfortunately, blind kindness can lead a person into the worst of situations. Even the most wonderful people, if they do not know moderation, get bricks landing on them. It's not to punish them, no, but by not knowing moderation they have set a law in motion, and they receive a few knocks.
