Suffering - learn the lessons it teaches us

Even during troubled times, you must strive to remain steadfast, because troubles are superficial accidents and do not touch what is essential in you. Look at the sea: however the waves may disturb the surface, a little deeper down this agitation does not exist. Calm reigns. When I say you should remain steadfast, however, this does not mean you should become insensitive or impassive. Not at all. You may feel crushed or annihilated, but even then, it is important not to lose sight of the fact that there is a point to this suffering and that one day it can be used for the greater good. When you are suffering, then, do not ask God to remove your suffering. As it has not been given to you without reason, God will not remove it; he will wait until you have learned what you must learn from it.
