Fear - and its negative effects

Fear is a vital instinct for the survival of the human species, but in certain cases it takes such uncontrolled, irrational forms that it is the ruin of many men and women, instead of saving them. This is why you should not wait until you have to confront great danger before you learn how to conquer fear. From time to time you may find yourself abruptly confronted to facts, situations or even simply words that evoke fear in you. Someone, for example, threatens to deprive you of something you care about, to oppose a good plan of yours. Instead of immediately becoming afraid, making weak and clumsy protests and getting yourself into a muddle, or walking out shouting and slamming the door, say nothing, keep quiet. When you are caught off guard, instinctive reactions only aggravate the situation. Who knows, they may just be empty threats. And even if they are real, you will manage to face them better if you keep your cool. Try to recall all the times you reacted impulsively, from fear of what you saw as a danger, and later regretted it.
