Love - without expecting anything

You can have plans, you can make wishes, but life is such that you can never be sure of anything, not of events and even less of human beings. And it is pointless to bemoan the fact: it is so. You may say that you need to count on the love you receive from your parents, from your friends and those around you. That is true, but you must know that while they will sometimes think of you, quite often they will also forget you, because they have their own worries and their own preoccupations. So, do not count so much on them, and understand that it is within yourself that you must establish something stable. Yes, we must learn to know the nature of things and to understand what we should do to avoid one disappointment after another. Since you need love in order to be happy, since you feel it is love that makes you flourish, that provides revelations, and since you want your love to last forever, well then, love, but do not wait to be loved. If those who are dear to you respond to your love and your trust, well and good, give thanks to heaven, but do not count on it. It is only in this way that you will always feel free.
