Love - purely selfish love or spiritual love

When you give free rein to purely selfish, sexual love, you find that all your organs take on a will of their own and function, as it were, independently of you. Then, try as you might, you are powerless to stop them or apply the brakes in any way, you are a mere spectator totally lacking control. You have been commandeered by other forces—entities that take over—and you can only watch. Whereas, if yours is a spiritual love, you can see that it is you, that is to say your soul and spirit, who are in control and are nourished. A mere glance, a presence or a fragrance is enough to swell your heart with happiness, because you feel that it is you yourself, your higher nature, that has eaten, drunk and breathed, not other forces making use of you.*
