Kingdom of God - work for this ideal

A great many people expend all their energy defending this or that insignificant cause – which, as often as not, they soon abandon in favour of something else. But how many do you know who devote their energies to a truly noble idea such as the kingdom of God and his righteousness? Very few. You will say, ‘The kingdom of God? But that’s a pipe dream! It will never come.’ Well, that is not our concern. Our concern is to work towards its realization, for it is the only ideal worth dedicating one’s life to; we are not asked to express an opinion about whether it will ever come or not. But one thing is certain: it will never come if nobody makes an effort because they think it is a waste of time and energy.*
