Words - a double-edged sword

Words are a double-edged sword that can enlighten, help and liberate, and just as easily destroy and massacre. Often when people have demolished someone with reproach and recriminations, they claim to have done so ‘for that person’s own good. They needed to hear it. I was only being honest.’ In truth, such people just need to express their irritation or dissatisfaction, and they use ‘a person’s own good’ and ‘honesty’ as an excuse. Why can they be honest only when they are gripped by anger? They may give all the good reasons they like, but as long as people’s motives are not truly disinterested and spiritual, their words will never have a positive influence on others.*
