Weaknesses and vices - often inspire people’s way of looking at life

Humans come to the world with instinctual tendencies inherited from their parents, grandparents, great-grandparents… and it is no easy task persuading them to free themselves! They cling so hard to this inheritance that, even if the Lord were to come and speak to them in person, instead of saying, ‘Yes, Lord, I am listening. I am going to make an effort to change’, they would reply, ‘Oh, no, Lord, I have my own point of view, my own opinions, and I am fine just as I am. Let me be.’ They do not know that the opinions they are so attached to are actually determined by their weaknesses, their lower needs and their passions. Do not delude yourselves: it is often people’s vices that determine their philosophy. Even if they justify their point of view with seemingly objective reasoning, it is actually their least noble needs that drive them to adopt a certain way of looking at life. With higher aspirations, they would see it from a better point of view.
