Vigilance and self-mastery - their necessity in human relationships

So many complications in life arise because we are impulsive and do not know how to hold our tongue. During a conversation with a boss or a colleague, for example, you are not sufficiently vigilant, and you let a few unfortunate words slip. Well, it’s done, and the relationship is finished, with all the complications that follow. You say you will attempt to make amends, but is this as easy as you think? Understand, therefore, that it is always better to be watchful and sensible, and to avoid creating disorder, first of all within yourself. We have very little control of the outer world, but in all that we ourselves do, it is possible, if we are conscious and vigilant, to introduce harmony, peace and light. Those who learn to practise patience and self-control every day are able to soothe the conflicts which arise with those around them. Their conduct inspires esteem and friendship in family and acquaintances. It is with attention and self-control that we are most likely to resolve problems.
