Spiritual life - keeping ourselves free for work of a heavenly nature

Few people understand how important it is to keep themselves free for an enterprise, for work of a heavenly nature. They are always in a hurry to commit themselves, to become wedded to the world, and as the world is very heavy and terribly demanding, they are completely crushed under the weight of all that it imposes upon them. They have so much to do, so many duties to fulfil, that there is no longer any room in their head or their heart, no longer one minute in the day for their spiritual life. Of course, they then use these obligations to justify themselves, without realizing that in doing so they are showing that they have been too ready to take on more than they can handle. If they want to save themselves, they must now snatch a moment, a space, out of each day and devote it to light, to the spirit.*
