Spirit - keep your body in good health so that the spirit can express itself fully

There have been many religious people and mystics in the past who believed that spirituality consisted of eating and drinking whatever came to hand, sleeping on the floor, enduring extremes of heat or cold, and living in deplorably unhygienic conditions. Of course, in this way they learned not to let themselves be dominated by the needs of their physical body or to lose themselves in sensual pleasures, for then, it is true, the spirit can no longer make its voice heard. But this was an exaggeration, and by depriving themselves of everything, many fell ill… which did nothing to encourage the spirit to manifest within them. We must be reasonable, maintain a certain balance, and do everything necessary to stay physically healthy, so that when the spirit wants to bring us inspirations and revelations, it will find a receptive, docile, physical body through which to express itself fully.*
