Saturn - represents time and eternity
Saturn is portrayed as an old man – or sometimes even a skeleton – holding a scythe. Saturn’s scythe symbolizes time, which destroys all things, and the skeleton symbolizes eternity, that which withstands the ravages of time. Saturn therefore represents both aspects. Behind the flesh – the world of appearances that time (the scythe) continually destroys – is the indestructible skeleton, eternity. A great deal of reflection and meditation is necessary before reaching the understanding that enables us to pass from time to eternity!*
