Mountains, moving - how to interpret this expression

You are familiar with the expression, 'a faith that can move mountains'. It is now part of everyday speech, and many people use it without knowing it comes from the passage in the Gospels in which Jesus says, 'If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ""Move from here to there,"" and it will move.' Did Jesus really believe human beings could make mountains move? No, for they are fine where nature in its wisdom has put them. So, what are these mountains Jesus is speaking of? Mountains found in the minds, hearts and wills of human beings - mountains of darkness, selfishness and sloth. These must be moved. And that is only possible with unshakeable faith. Did Jesus move mountains in Palestine? No, he wasn't concerned with that sort of thing. And yet he moved mountains, kingdoms and whole continents in the heads and hearts of human beings.
