Magic wand - a symbol of the living link between heaven and earth

What is a magic wand? Because it is called ‘magic’, people think of it as an object endowed with supernatural powers, and that by simply holding it in the hand and uttering several mysterious formulas, one can command the spirits and perform great miracles. Well yes, this is what you read in fairy tales! But in reality, a magic wand, like a magic formula, is only an outer, material symbol of the inner, living link which the Magus must establish between the world above and the world below. It is within himself first of all that he must create this living link between heaven and earth, because life is the magic power. And then, whether or not he uses a wand for the exercise of his power is secondary.
