Love - a higher state of consciousness

Holiness, contrary to what many people think, does not mean a man and a woman must avoid feeling attracted to one another. Holiness is not achieved by refraining from love, because love is life, and holiness requires life. But just as there are varying degrees of life, the same is true of love. Love, true love, is not only beyond sexual attraction, it is even beyond feelings. It is a higher state of consciousness. There are certain virtues that help us draw closer to this true knowledge of love, and among them, the most important is purity. And when I speak of purity, I mean purity of thoughts and feelings: thoughts and feelings free of self-centredness. The three words 'life', 'love' and 'purity' are connected, because life depends on love, and the purer love is, the more rich, good and luminous life is.
