Holy Spirit - prepare a dwelling place for it within you

Many spiritual people believe that all they have to do to receive the Divinity is to surrender themselves to some vague mystical impulse. Well no, because when you are content merely to surrender yourself, you are passive, and it is by no means certain that it will be God who enters. More likely it will be a few devils who, seeing someone who is ignorant, wide open and completely unprotected, will be delighted to find a place to settle. Whatever the undertaking, you must begin by preparing the right conditions. When you pour liquid into a container, you do not choose a dirty receptacle, or if it is dirty, you wash it first. And if you resemble a dirty container, do you think the Holy Spirit will choose you as a dwelling place? What will come and take up residence are dark, impure entities, attracted by the food provided by your poorly controlled passions and instincts. Of course, the Holy Spirit may come to dwell in you, but only once you have worked hard to prepare a home fit to receive it.*
