Holy Communion - the bread and wine are solar symbols

The sacrament of the Holy Communion commemorates the last supper that Jesus shared with his disciples, in which he took the bread, blessed it, and gave it to them with the words, ‘Take, eat, this is my body.’ Then he took the wine, blessed it and gave it to them saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood.’ This sacred rite is repeated every day during Mass by the priest who consecrates the bread and the wine so that they may become the flesh and the blood of Christ. If we are to understand the meaning of these words, we must know that the bread and wine, made from wheat and grapes, are symbols of the two principles – masculine and feminine – found in most Initiations. The bread can only become the flesh of Christ and the wine his blood because they are solar symbols. On the cosmic plane, the flesh and blood of Christ are the light and heat of the sun, which create life; and on the spiritual plane, the flesh and blood of Christ are wisdom and love. So, what Jesus meant was, ‘Those who eat my flesh – wisdom – and drink my blood – love –will have eternal life.’
