Guide - we also need one for our inner life

Everyone knows that you need a guide to climb the peaks of high mountains. In the world of sports, everybody recognizes the usefulness and even the necessity of a guide. But when it comes to their inner life, many people think they have no need of a guide. In the inner life, we are much more at risk of getting lost, of being crushed in avalanches or of falling over precipices, and yet it is quite extraordinary how many people think they can get along on their own, without a guiding hand. Yes, that is the reason we come across so many sick, unbalanced and mentally disturbed people: they did not want a guide and got lost in their inner maze.*
