Guide, spiritual - it is dangerous to believe oneself capable of taking on this function prematurely

Why is it that so many men and women think it is easy to become spiritual guides? There they are, taking it upon themselves to teach others before they themselves have seen the light. If they could study and analyse themselves a little, something would hold them back. But no, they have read a few books, they are full of wonder at great Masters from places like India or Tibet, and they would like to be like them. Of course, in itself there is nothing reprehensible about this, but they should know that there is nothing more difficult than taking people along the path of light, and that they should be cautious. Otherwise, what will happen? All the imperfections and shortcomings they never thought to put right in themselves will reflect in everything they do. And so, instead of helping their ‘disciples’ to climb the steep paths that lead to sublime heights, not only do they often lead them astray onto treacherous paths, but they are dragged with them into the abyss.
