Discouragement - breaks the link that should exist between our earthly and heavenly natures

The discouragement we sometimes experience is a sign that the inner link that should exist between our earthly and heavenly natures has broken. Our earthly nature is like a piece of matter to which our heavenly nature must constantly bring light and life. Our earthly nature pulls us down, while our heavenly nature takes us to the heights. This is why, as soon as our earthly nature manages to extricate itself from the power of our heavenly nature, we experience a kind of fall, an inner collapse. To maintain or restore the link between our two natures, we must learn to work with fire, the way alchemists do. It is the fire, the sacred fire of divine love, that welds our lower nature to our higher nature, but only so long as we keep blowing on it.
