Continence - is only good for those who have a spiritual ideal

There is only one answer you can give someone who asks whether they should live a life of chastity and continence: it all depends on their deeper nature and on their goal in life. Continence can have very good results, but also very bad ones: it can make some people hysterical, neurotic or ill, and others, on the contrary, strong, balanced and healthy. Are those who give satisfaction to their sexual instincts right to do so? If nothing means more to them in life than this pleasure and they are unable to do without it, then yes. But for those who have true spiritual aspirations, it is different: until they learn to master sexual energy, they will never be able to satisfy the needs of their soul and they will always feel dissatisfied. Here, as in any other situations, everything depends on a person’s ideals and deepest aspirations.
