Two, the number - polarization of 1

In arithmetic, 2 is the sum of 1+1. But, in Initiatic Science, 2 is 1 polarized as positive and negative, for the purpose of creation. But, here, the terms ‘positive’ and ‘negative’ are not meant in a moral sense (with positive being good and negative bad). No, in interpreting them we should bear in mind that these terms belong also to the vocabulary of physics. An electric point, for example, has a negative and a positive polarity. When we transpose those terms from the physical plane to the psychic plane, we apply the positive, emissive nature to the masculine principle and the negative, receptive nature to the feminine principle. All aspects of life concerning either creation or its creatures are governed by the number 2. But we can only understand the 2 if we remain aware of the 1. Reality is one, but the one becomes polarized, and all the rest ensues from this polarization. The important thing for us is to understand the nature of the two poles and how they work together. If their relationship is harmonious, there can be said to be true polarization: what occurs is rather like the signals of friendship people send out to each other from close to or far apart.
