Subtle exchanges - they occur through your heart, your intellect, your soul and your spirit

If you learn to observe yourselves, you will realize that your emotional life is largely made up of subtle exchanges, and that these exchanges nourish you. When you leave home in the morning, you meet men and women for whom you feel friendship, affection or admiration. You greet them, they return your greeting, and you all feel happy. These exchanges are made through the intermediary of your heart, your intellect, your soul and your spirit. And even if you do not meet men and women who inspire these feelings of love and admiration in person, you can always hear some on the radio, or see some on television. You may also be filled with wonder by reading a book, listening to music, or contemplating works of art. Are these not all exchanges with other creatures? Through their masterpieces, artists give us something, and we give something in return, in the form of admiration and love. ‘But many of them are dead!’ you will say. Physically that may be so, but their soul and spirit, which created these masterpieces are immortal, and they continue to nourish your soul and spirit.
