Wealth - of the thoughts and feelings you share with others

Even for the best of people, money can be a source of temptation. You have to be very strong to lead the same spiritual life in the midst of opulence as you would if you had only what was strictly necessary. Why do you think hermits go to live in deserts or monks make a vow of poverty? Because wealth is not the best condition for spiritual life, which demands so much renunciation and inner effort. They have understood that true wealth means having insight and being at peace. For what sort of wealth can it be that is obtained at the cost of everything most precious in oneself? True wealth is the wealth of thoughts and feelings we can share with others without ever being any the poorer.
