Tolerance - a form of intelligence

History shows how Christians, supposedly full of love for God and even with charity for others, have persecuted, imprisoned and even burned the noblest and purest human beings. While others who were perhaps not particularly loving have demonstrated tolerance, respect and humanity. Why is this? Because they were intelligent. You will say: ‘But people with a highly developed intellect also have a highly developed critical sense. They are generally lacking in tolerance and can be mean and even cruel.’ Well, this is because they are lacking in true intelligence, and because the intellect is not in fact true intelligence. In reality, the more we enlarge our field of vision, the more we understand people and things, and the more tolerant we become.
