Personal life - and collective life

As individuals, each one of us is independent and autonomous - that is understood. But each one of us is also connected to the human collectivity and, beyond that even, to all the realms of nature and to the cosmic collectivity. We are therefore living two lives simultaneously: the personal and the collective. For the majority of human beings, this is happening outside their awareness, but it is better for it to become conscious. Those who feel compelled to merge with the collective, universal life must not lose their self-awareness but always remain able to think and act as responsible beings. And those who experience themselves as individuals quite distinct from others must, while retaining the sense of their own individuality, become aware of belonging to a whole, of being a cell in the social body and, beyond that still, a cell in the cosmic body.
