Objects - why it is important to handle them with care

Every day you move among a great number of objects. And maybe today you are in a hurry and anxious, and as you go by you bump into a chair. You are annoyed, because now it’s an obstacle in your way, and you give it a kick. The kick may not be very important in itself; what is important is what happens in you. Bumping into a chair as you go past shows you do not know how to gauge your movements, and then giving it a kick because it has slowed you down is not only unintelligent, since it doesn’t do any good, but also unloving, since you let yourself go in a fit of anger. Objects may not be sensitive to your reactions. But if you handle them carefully and gently, you yourself feel in good sorts; you harmonize the currents in and around you. If you do not know how to behave with innocent objects, what will you do with people who come and pester you or treat you badly?
