Norms - human beings lower themselves to the current level of things

Humans are so conditioned by their present way of life that if they suddenly found themselves in the kingdom of God they would start criticizing everything, ‘Oh but it’s nothing like home. That’s not right... This is not normal!’ Just like the story of the man who belonged to a tribe of one-eyed people. He went off on his travels and one day came across a society where everyone had two eyes. On his return home he told his fellow tribesmen, ‘I saw such monsters, the most abominable beings – instead of having just one eye like us, they have two. We must attack them and scratch out their second eye!’ This is fairly typical of the way things are in the world: as soon as people notice that someone shows signs of unusual ability or virtue, they gang up against him saying, ‘It’s not normal, it’s not natural!’ Because the majority sets the norm. So, if the majority behaves like animals, the minority has to descend to their level and remain like animals. And if by chance people come across an angel or a divinity, they will fight such a being in the name of their own norm.
