Morality and religion - founded on knowledge of the great cosmic laws

Many people see morality and religion as having been invented by a clergy intent on controlling the ignorant and gullible populace. Certainly, in many cases, the clergy have placed morality and religion at the service of quite reprehensible interests and passions. But true morality and true religion have nothing to do with the interests of the few. They are based on knowledge of the great cosmic laws, in particular the law of cause and effect, which states that every thought, every feeling and every action has, according to its nature, positive or negative consequences for human beings. If you merely tell people, 'Do this... Don't do that...,' as if they were children asked to obey without being given any explanation, why would they accept those rules? If they are to evolve, they need to be shown that true morality and true religion rest on knowledge of the great cosmic laws.
