Faith - and belief

Faith and belief are often confused, yet they are two different things. A man buys a lottery ticket; he thinks he is going to win the jackpot, and it makes him very happy for a while, until the day he discovers he hasn’t won a thing. That is belief. And now let’s look at a chemist about to do an experiment. He takes the elements he needs, and having measured them out in the right proportions he thinks the experiment will be a success. And that is what happens. This time it is no longer belief but faith. Belief is based on ignorance of the natural laws. To have a belief is to want arbitrariness to reign in nature. Faith, on the other hand, rests on knowledge. It is a certainty, the result of work and experience. So what we have studied, experienced and verified in past incarnations establishes itself of its own accord in this life as unshakeable faith.
