Birth of the Christ-child - the symbolism of the cave

Winter begins when the sun enters the constellation of Capricorn, an earth sign. Symbolically, Capricorn is related to summits and rocky peaks, but also to deep caverns and caves that open into the bowels of the earth, where crystals and precious stones are slowly forming. This image of the bowels of the earth is worth meditating on, because it teaches us about the similarities between earth and human beings. Within her womb, a woman carries and gives form to her child. And within the abdomen of each one of us, in the hara centre, the Christ-child must one day take form. Nature is very active during the rest of the year, but as winter draws closer the days grow shorter and the nights grow longer, and much activity ceases: the time has come for contemplation and meditation. By quietening down, the whole of nature invites us to go deep within ourselves to prepare the necessary conditions for the birth of the divine Child.
