Beauty - our love for it can save us
On the path of evolution, the love of beauty can take you a very long way, but only if it is the love of spiritual beauty, divine beauty, which is at once purity, harmony and intelligence. For the love of beauty is a protection; it is what will stop you from straying into mediocrity and baseness, into everything that can sully your heart and soul. It is like a protective piece of clothing. When you wear beautiful new clothes, you won't go and wash your car or do the washing up or the housework in them. But if you have old clothes that are already dirty, you really enjoy getting them dirtier! So, why not draw a conclusion from this for your inner life? Supposing you have a magnificent inner robe, a pure, luminous aura - your true clothing - : you will not risk getting it dirty, and so it protects you. This is how the love of beauty can save you.
