Economy - while it prospers, humans

Why do humans keep creating limitations and useless burdens for themselves? Do they not realize that by going deeper into matter they lose their joie de vivre? All the burdens they have accumulated weigh on their heart. If they would only get rid of them, their joy would return. Visitors to very poor countries are often surprised to find happy, smiling people, whereas in prosperous countries they wear such sombre expressions! Well, it’s true; contrary to what you might imagine, material abundance does not really bring people much happiness. They have become prisoners now of this whole artificial world they have created. Things have gone so far and commerce and finance occupy such a prominent place that people cannot see how to extricate themselves from the system. And while the economy is said to be prospering, humans are in a state of collapse.
