Will of God - submitting to it is an act of magic

To do God’s will is not only to obey a higher authority but also to perform an act of magic. Yes, placing yourself in the service of the Lord immediately absorbs your whole being, sets it apart, closes it to other influences. All the contradictory wishes trying to win it over and take advantage of it are then prevented from doing so: it is engaged elsewhere. Those who declare they have no truck with God’s will believe themselves to be free, but they are wrong. They are exposed on all sides to the will of a host of visible or invisible creatures – humans, elementals, larvae, and so on – that begin worming their way into them to make use of them. Anyone who is not inhabited by the Lord can be sure that others will inhabit them, and they will end up in the service of beings with the most anarchic and perverse of wills. Is that any better?
